A little about me…
For the last number of years I have had the opportunity to teach many wonderful students along side some fantastic colleagues at a couple of different universities. Most recently I have been teaching private voice, and serving as the director of opera in central Arkansas.
My first efforts were cedar fence picket planter boxes and small Christmas trees. I’ve moved on to building a bread box for my wife, and a coffee table and simple shoe bench for my daughters. I’m excited about this new outlet for creativity, and look forward to learning more about how to create with wood.
Dr. Gregory Church
FounderMy first love has always been music. I grew up playing saxophone in marching, concert, and jazz bands. When I first went to college, I bounced around between a few different majors, knowing the entire time that music was really what drove me, what I wanted to do as my profession. After entering Wingate University, I became a music major and never looked back. I went on to earn two degrees in church music, and two in vocal performance. My career as a singer has taken me to various parts of the world, and has given me the opportunity to perform with opera companies, orchestras, and a host of great musicians.
After watching a video posted by Dusty at The Dusty Lumber Co., I was inspired to try my hand at woodworking. It’s a beautiful art form that has always fascinated me, but I never thought I had what it takes to take raw wood and turn it into something interesting and useful. I’ve researched, studied, and (of course) watched YouTube videos of some great artists: Matthew Peech; Shara at Woodshop Diaries; and Matt Outlaw at 731 Woodworks. Two of my personal friends and inspirations are Dr. Rob Holden, with whom I currently teach, and Dr. Jack Stanford, who was a colleague when I taught in Texas. These folks have been great models of creativity, integrity and encouragement for new woodworkers like me.
